Nostalgic Trip By Osaka Munucipal Ferry Boats Vol.2

https://burari-trip.blogspot.com/2020/05/what-is-osaka-municipal-boat-in-osaka.html

This is the latter half of the note for boarding all eight Osaka Municipal ferry routes.

Funamachi Ferry Boat

I will quote from the Osaka City website.

Funamachi ferry connects 1-chome, Tsurumachi, Taisho-ku and 1-chome, Funamachi, Taisho-ku (75 meters between quays). As of 2018, about 180 people used the average daily. From the latter half of the Showa 20's to the 1930's, people and bicycles were passing by lining the boat to the opposite bank using the narrow river width.

There are few users next to the Kizugawa ferry that I would board next. I think this is because the number of people riding in the factory area is limited. When I got on, there was only one passenger besides me.

I crossed over the embankment with stairs and slopes.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221501j:plain

It was a ferry crossing the Kizugawa Canal with a width of 75 m, so I arrived at the opposite bank in no time. I didn't have time to take photos.

Kizugawa Ferry Boat

According to Osaka City's data, this Kizugawa ferry has the least number of users.

I'll quote from the Osaka City website.

It is the only ferry operated by the Port Authority that connects 1-chome, Funamachi, Taisho-ku and 1-chome, Hirabayashi, Suminoe-ku (238 meters between quays). A car ferry (134 tons of "Matsumaru") has been operating since December 1955.

Although it had the ability to carry from passenger cars to large trucks, the car ferry was abolished from the year following 1973, when Senbonmatsu Ohashi bridge opened in the upstream, and it became a ferry that carries only people and bicycles.

Most of the users are those who go to factories in Taisho ward and those who work in timber related to Suminoe ward. Maybe because the water is clean, you can see migratory birds flying in. As of 2018, about 159 people used it every day.

It is the entrance of the Kizu River ferry. The number of Kizugawa ferry boats is small, and it runs once every 45 minutes at lunchtime.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221549j:plain

Unfortunately the ship had just returned from the opposite bank and would not run for nearly 40 minutes after this. Just wait.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221608j:plain

The ship runs every 10 minutes around 7 am or 5 pm, but at noon it doesn't run frequently.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221626j:plain

I took some photos while waiting. There was a bridge here as well. This is Shin-Kizugawa Ohashi bridge.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221641j:plain

You can walk or cycle on this bridge, but it is a huge bridge that is 50 meters above sea level. That's why people use the ferry boat except for only people who want to bully themselves can cross by human power.

But it really seems fun to visit the bridge in Osaka ...

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221800j:plain

The Taisho ward side of the bridge is a triple loop. Isn't it fun to ride this on a bicycle?

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221656j:plain

There was a waiting room.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221731j:plain

We are not allowed to take photos on the pier and the boat. I didn't know about it. The boat sometimes rolls.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221745j:plain

The door was closed until departure time.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221905j:plain

I wanted ride a boat right away. It's too cold to wait outdoor.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206221941j:plain

After 40 minutes, I came to Suminoe Ward side.

Senbonmatsu Ferry Boat

I will quote from the Osaka City website.

It connects Minami-Enkajima 1-chome, Taisho-ku and Minamitsumori 2-chome, Nishinari-ku (230 meters between quays).

This area is close to the end of the Kizu River, and during the Edo period, it was a place where many ships came and went. The shogunate built a large stone dike here in the 18th year of the Tenpo era (1832) so as to secure water depth for the safety of boat transportation and also to serve as a breakwater. The name of Senbonmatsu comes from the row of pine trees planted on this embankment.

The Senbonmatsu Ohashi Bridge was completed in 1973, and the ferry was to be abolished at the same time, but due to the strong demand of local residents, it will continue to exist and is still used as a valuable foot for commuting to school. As of 2018, an average of about 922 people used it every day.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206222015j:plain

When I arrived at the ferry terminal, the ship had just left.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206222047j:plain

Flowers are offered at the entrance. While waiting for the next ship, I searched on the net and found that there was an applicable case, murder. I'm scared

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206222102j:plain

There were two passengers including me.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206222031j:plain

I looked at the upper stream of the Kizu River. It's getting cloudy.

Ochiai-simo Ferry Boat

Ochiai-shita route is located upstream of the Kizu River from the Senbonmatsu ferry.  There are  warehouse companies and a building materials companyies along the river, and ships carrying goods, gravel, etc. come and go.

I will quote from the homepage of Osaka City.

Ochiai-shim ferry connects Hirao 1-chome, Taisho-ku and Tsumori 2-chome, Nishinari-ku (138 meters between quays). As of 2018, an average of 361 people are using it every day. Hundreds of black-headed gulls fly from late October to late April every year.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206222120j:plain

These are a pier and a ferry boat. It seems that typhoon No. 21 struck Osaka and damaged them two years ago.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206222229j:plain

The crews pushed the ship by hand to leave the pier. These two people boarded the ship.

Ochiai-kami Ferry Boat

Ochiai-kami route is located about 1km upstream of the Ochiai-Shimo route.

I will quote from the Osaka City website.

The Ochiai-kami fari ferry connects 1-chome, Chishima, Taisho-ku and 4-chome, Kitatsumori, Nishinari-ku (100 meters between quays). As of 2018, an average of 447 people used the service daily. It can be seen that the upstream Kizugawa sluice (tide) is closed about once a month due to opening and closing test runs.

f:id:tamikiti67:20200206222301j:plain

The arch-shaped Kizu River sluice can be seen supstream. When using the sluice, the arch will fall 90 degrees to the upstream side. I noticed it this time. It's a great mechanism.

It completely prevents the intrusion of high tide.

This is the end of this report because the battery of the smartphone has run out.  I have achieved all 8 routes. You can go on foot, but it's a totally 15 km road, so it's easy to ride a bicycle.
